Review: Inescapable (The Premonition #1) by Amy A. Bartol

Book: Inescapable (The Premonition #1)

Author: Amy A. Bartol

Published: August 2011

My Rating: 5/5

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N

Book Description:

My name is Evie Claremont and this was to be the making of me–my freshman year of college. I had been hoping that once I had arrived on Crestwood’s campus, the nightmare that I’ve been having would go away. It hasn’t.

I may be an inexperienced seventeen-year-old, but I’m grounded…sane. Since meeting sophomore Reed Wellington, however, nothing makes any sense. Whenever he is near, I feel an attraction to him–a magnetic kind of force pulling me towards him. I know what you’re thinking…that sounds fairly awesome. Yeah, it would–if he liked me, but Reed acts as if I’m the worst thing that’s ever happened to Crestwood…or him. But, get this, for some reason every time I turn around he’s there, barging into my life.

What is the secret he is keeping from me? I’m hoping that it is anything but what I expect: that he is not exactly normal…and neither am I. So maybe Crestwood won’t be the making of me, but it could be the breaking of me. I have been left to wonder if the dark future my dream is foretelling is…inescapable.

My Review:

I don’t know whether to scream in happiness or to cry right now. I just finished reading Inescapable and I’m not so sure if it is wise of me to write a review quiet so soon. I probably need to take a few deep breaths, because really, my head is swimming. What have you done to me Amy A. Bartol?

Wow. Where to start, huh? Continue reading

Cover Reveal: Incendiary (The Premonition #4) by Amy A. Bartol

Title: Incendiary (The Premonition #4) by Amy A. Bartol

Author: Amy A. Bartol

Expected release date: Nov 30, 2012 (E-book release: Dec. 7th)

Genre and Age Group: YA, Paranormal Romance

Cover reveal organized by: SupaGurl Tours

Book Description:

Cold, fine drops of rain fall softly on my cheeks as I emerge from the darkness of the ship’s interior to the gray, overcast sky of the main deck. Pulling my dark pea coat tighter to my body, the wind lifts red tendrils of my hair. I walk slowly to the railing overlooking the water.

I catch my first sight of the Irish coastline; its craggy landscape makes me shiver in dread. I find it difficult to imagine now how the Gancanagh had made this their home for so long without anyone realizing it. The cold, moss-covered edifices practically scream their presence. As I study the shadows between the falling-down stone, I imagine creeping shapes of undead Faeries grasping the rock, waiting for our ship to draw nearer to their position.

Tipping my face up, I let the rain wash over me. It bathes away the frigid sweat of fear that has broken on my brow. “You don’t know how fiercely beautiful you are, do you?” A quiet voice behind me asks, causing me to stiffen and fix my eyes on the rocks along the shoreline.

About the Author:

I live in Michigan with my husband and our two sons. My family is very supportive of my writing. When I’m writing, they often bring me the take-out menu so that I can call and order them dinner. They listen patiently when I talk about my characters like they’re real. They rarely roll their eyes when I tell them I’ll only be a second while I finish writing a chapter…and then they take off their coats. They ask me how the story is going when I surface after living for hours in a world of my own making. They have learned to accept my “writing uniform” consisting of a slightly unflattering pink fleece jacket, t-shirt, and black yoga pants. And they smile at my nerdy bookishness whenever I try to explain urban fantasy to them. In short, they get me, so they are perfect and I am blessed.

o—o—o—o—o—o—o—o—o—o—o—o—o—o

So, what do you think? I’m in love of course. As a fan of this series, this is a very awaited book for me, even if I have to read the previous book to this one. I have this thing that I need to have all books in a series before reading them. So, yes, I can’t wait!

Review: Angel Evolution (Evolution Trilogy #1) by David Estes

Book:  Angel Evolution

Author:  David Estes

Published: October 2011

My Rating: 3/5

GoodReads | Amazon | B&N

Book Description:

When Taylor meets Gabriel at college, she is in awe of the subtle glow that surrounds him. No one else, not even her best friend, seems to notice.

Something about him scares her.

Is all as it appears? While Taylor struggles for answers, she finds herself in the middle of a century old war centered on one miraculous revelation: evolution.

My Review:

Okay. Let’s start by explain my problem with the ratings for this particular book. I couldn’t give Angel Evolution four stars along with some books I love to death, but three stars doesn’t feel like quite enough (it’s more of a 3.5), so I would say you ignore the rating and just read the review. I tend to be contradicting sometimes. Who cares? Just read it

Angel Evolution has a pretty different take on angels and demons from what I’m used to. And before you narrow your eyes at me, let me just tell you that different isn’t always bad. As a matter of fact, different is most of the time good. Like Taylor.

Review: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Book: Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #1)

Author:  Laini Taylor

Published: September 2011

My Rating: 5/5

GoodReads | Amazon | B&N

Book Description:

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My Review:

Oh. My. God.

When I finished reading this book I was an emotional mess, and now as I write this review I have to say I still am, and it’s just as intense. Can I say it again? Oh. My. God. Again? …Okay, no. I’m just kidding, but… Oh. My. God. Okay, I’m stopping now.

The Guardian Legacy #1: Awakened

Book Description:

Lil isn’t just an average teenager. She’s one of the Nephilim–the descendants of humans and angels–which gives her some serious psi skills and a mission for redemption. Just when Lil thinks she’s found a balance between her normal life with human friends and her training to become a Guardian, she’s warned that someone close to her will betray her. When the boy she loves starts acting strangely and one of her human friends acquires a supernatural ability, Lil begins to realize that someone is manipulating the people she loves… and won’t stop until she’s been lured to the dark side.

My Review:

Warning: If you haven’t read the first book in the series you probably shouldn’t read this review. There are things that I inevitably need to mention that happened in Book #1, and if you didn’t read it, you might be spoiled. Read at your own risk.

Well, here we go!

Betrayed is an amazing sequel to Awakened. It takes off seven months later after the end battle in book one, between Valafar and the evil queen of the demons, and the Cardinal Guardians.
