Review: Someone’s Baby by Dani Sinclair

Book: Someone’s Baby

Author: Dani Sinclair

Published: May, 2001

My Rating: 3/5

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N

Book Description:

Gruff rancher Cade McGovern had been burned by love in the past and he had no intention of it ever happening again. But when he found an unconscious woman and her newborn baby, he had no choice but to open his reluctant and battered heart.

Someone had tried to take Jayne’s baby girl and had hurt her deliberately in the process. Where Cade came from, no one hurt a woman — and got away with it. So the solitary rancher made a vow to protect the two females suddenly thrust upon him.

But who was Jayne really? Because there was no way she could be the child’s mother — not when she’d been a virgin until she met him!

My Review:

Someone’s Baby is quite the book.

Jayne is a freelance private investigator with a baby, a baby that isn’t her own, a baby that she saved from being sold by a baby-trafficking ring. And now bad guys are after her. Continue reading

Review: Chasing the Skip by Janci Patterson

Book: Chasing the Skip

Author: Janci Patterson

Published: October, 2012

My Rating: 3/5

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N

Book Description:

Ricki’s dad has never been there for her. He’s a bounty hunter who spends his time chasing parole evaders—also known as “skips”—all over the country. But now since Ricki’s mom ran off, Ricki finds herself an unwilling passenger in a front-row seat to her father’s dangerous lifestyle.

Ricki’s feelings get even more confused when her dad starts chasing seventeen-year-old Ian Burnham. She finds herself unavoidably attracted to the dark-eyed felon who seems eager to get acquainted. But Ricki thinks she’s ever in control—the perfect manipulator. Little does she know that Ian isn’t playing their game by her rules.

My Review:

Oh my! It looks like I’m having a bit of bad luck when it comes to books this week. I’m rating this one 3 stars because even though it was sort of good it wasn’t what I expected and I’m left a little disappointed.

For what I’ve been reading in reviews after I finished I’m not the only one that expected some sort of cute story about a bad boy and a girl with family problems. And it was that, for the most part. Continue reading

Review: Angel Evolution (Evolution Trilogy #1) by David Estes

Book:  Angel Evolution

Author:  David Estes

Published: October 2011

My Rating: 3/5

GoodReads | Amazon | B&N

Book Description:

When Taylor meets Gabriel at college, she is in awe of the subtle glow that surrounds him. No one else, not even her best friend, seems to notice.

Something about him scares her.

Is all as it appears? While Taylor struggles for answers, she finds herself in the middle of a century old war centered on one miraculous revelation: evolution.

My Review:

Okay. Let’s start by explain my problem with the ratings for this particular book. I couldn’t give Angel Evolution four stars along with some books I love to death, but three stars doesn’t feel like quite enough (it’s more of a 3.5), so I would say you ignore the rating and just read the review. I tend to be contradicting sometimes. Who cares? Just read it

Angel Evolution has a pretty different take on angels and demons from what I’m used to. And before you narrow your eyes at me, let me just tell you that different isn’t always bad. As a matter of fact, different is most of the time good. Like Taylor.

Review: In the Middle of Nowhere by Julie Ann Knudsen

Book:  In the Middle of Nowhere

Author:  Julie Ann Knudsen

Published: April 2012

My Rating: 3/5

GoodReads | Amazon | B&N

Book Description:

Butterflies. Little, fluttering butterflies. That’s what fifteen-year-old Willow Flynn feels in the pit of her stomach every time the mysterious boy is near. But Willow has other things to contend with as she deals with the tragic loss of her father, as well as her emotionally preoccupied mother, while being uprooted to a new house, a new school, a new life, far away, on an island, in the middle of nowhere.

At the beginning of the school year, the sickly, but cute Michael sends Willow the first of many cryptic notes during homeroom. He stares at Willow and gives her the creeps. Michael never returns to school after that, but Willow ends up connecting with the poetic boy on-line where they strike up an unusual friendship.

As Willow attempts to fit in and find her niche in the ever-cliquey high school world, she is further confused by Michael who strives to win her over and mend her broken heart. But will he be able to, especially when his own existence remains so uncertain?

My Review:

First, I would like to thank the author, Julie Ann Knudsen for giving me a copy of this book to review.

In the Middle of Nowhere is a story about learning to overcome lose, it’s a story about learning to open up and letting go.

I was really looking forward to reading this book. When I first found it I was excited, it seemed really interesting, and then I was lucky enough to get a copy of it from the author to review. I was so happy! I was looking forward to losing myself in Willow’s life story and how hers and Michael’s love started. But things didn’t go quite as planned.

Review: Rules of Negotiation by Inara Scott

Book: Rules of Negotiation

Author: Inara Scott

Published: February 2012

My Rating: 3.5/5

GoodReads | Amazon | B&N

Book Description:

He let her make the rules…

NYC’s most eligible bachelor, Brit Bencher, is also known as The Slayer for his reputation in the boardroom…and the bedroom. And he’ll do anything to take care of his family, even seduce high-powered corporate attorney Tori Anderson in the hopes of getting her to reveal confidential information about one of her clients. But for the first time in his life, he finds he’s falling for a woman.

…and then he started to break them.

After juggling the demands of her career and the stress of caring for her ailing mother, Tori Anderson doesn’t have time for relationships—but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to feel like a woman. When Brit offers a no-strings attached fling, it sounds like exactly what she needs. But what will she do when Brit decides he won’t take “one night stand” for an answer? When Tori uncovers his lies, will he lose his chance with her forever?

My Review:

(It might be a tad spoiler-ish)

I had quite some mixed feelings over this book. I felt a bit disappointed. I expected more. Way more. And though it wasn’t a bad read, it left me wanting for something else, some sort of deeper connection with the characters.

Tori Anderson is a twenty-something lawyer. She’s driven, determined and strong. She’s better known as a workaholic. Work is her life. And she’s also very untrusting when it comes to good looking, charming men. Having learned from her mother than any men with too much charisma was not to be trusted, Tori takes her advice to the heart. Brit Bencher is exactly the type that falls into that rule. Into Tori’s Rules of Negotiation.

Rule of Negotiation #1: Beware of sexy CEOs bearing favorable contracts.
